Abstract:
CIAUD operates within the framework of the Strategic Guidelines for 2024–2028, approved at the Researchers’ Assembly in December 2023, which serve as a roadmap for the next funding period. These guidelines, aligned with CIAUD’s objectives, structure the unit’s position across four key perspectives:

    • The conceptual framework situates CIAUD within the contemporary world, promoting the adaptation of R&D to emerging themes and the stabilisation of the cultural framework of disciplinary knowledge.
    • The strategic framework contextualises CIAUD within international reference documents, such as the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, the European Urban Agenda, the European Green Deal, the New Leipzig Charter and the New European Bauhaus.
    • The human framework addresses demographic ageing, delayed access to stable employment and the integration of young people into R&D within the current university context.
    • The geographical framework positions CIAUD as a driver of national cohesion and the promotion of partnerships with its hubs.

The CIAUD Strategic Guidelines set out five pillars for 2024–2028. The document is available online: https://ciaud.fa. ulisboa.pt/index.php/en/documents-faqs/ciauddocuments

CIAUD’s strategy for the acquisition and renewal of scientific equipment for the period 2025–2029 is aligned with the centre’s multi-annual objectives, in particular with its restructuring as a network that coordinates and decentralises research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design. To strengthen territorial cohesion, the research hubs in Viana do Castelo, Porto, Covilhã, Castelo Branco, Lisbon and Portimão — developed in partnership with associated institutions — require technological infrastructure to support collaboration, fieldwork, complementarity and inter-hub communication. The modernisation of CIAUD, through digital transformation and networked research, strengthens links between academia and industry and promotes competitiveness, resilience and smart specialisation. Grounded in research and innovation, this plan supports diversification and sustainable economic, social and environmental growth, in line with European priorities for open science, the digital transition and knowledge transfer.
