Emília Simão is PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms by Porto University (UP), MSc in Multimedia by the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP), in Art Studies by the Superior Artistic School of Porto (ESAP) and Graduated in Communication Sciences by the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG).
Currently, Professor of New Media Aesthetics / Artistic Emergent Practices / Semiotics / Artistic Research / Interface Design and Coordinator of Multimedia and Arts Degree at Universidade Portucalense (UPT) and also Erasmus Department Coordinator (UPT). Also invited Professor of Multimedia / Digital Communication at Portuguese Catholic University- UCP (PT). The main research focus are Electronic Music, New Media Arts, Digital Platforms, Digital Aesthetics and Digital Cultre. Coordinator of ObEMMA-Scientific Observatory of Electronic Music and Media Art and member of CITCEM-Transdisciplinary Research Centre for Culture, Space and Memory (UP). Author of various communications and publications, mainly related with Electronic Dance Music Cultures, Virtual Environments and Media Arts. Member of organizing and scientific committee of ARTECH_International Conference on Digital and Interactive Arts; KISMIF_International Conference on DIY Cultures, Sustainability and Artistic Ecosystems and NOIZE_International Workshops on Electronic Music, Aesthetics and Territories. Participated in several exhibitions as artist and curator.
