Rui Florentino – Short Bio

PhD in the program of Peripheries, Sustainability and Urban Vitality at the Polytechnic University of Madrid – UPM (2011), Master in Contemporary Architectural Culture and Construction of Modern Society by the Technical University of Lisbon (2002) and Bachelor in Arhcitecture by the Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto – FAUP (1996). He is Assistant Professor at Universidade Portucalense (UPT), Department of Architecture and Multimedia Gallaecia (DAMG), and Researcher in Urbanism and Planning at CIAUD/UL – UPT branch. He was previously Professor at the Catholic University of Portugal, the Lusófona University and the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. He was also a member of the Board of the Portuguese Association of Urban Planners (AUP, 2012-16) and of the Order of Architects (OA, 2017-20), having coordinated the Gulbenkian Academy of Knowledge project within the scope of the National Architecture and Landscape Policy, for the primary and secondary education levels, and chaired the Technical Quality Committee for the provision of services by Architects and Landscape Architects and the Organizing Committee of the XV Congress of Architects (2018). He is a researcher of the projects “Siza Atlas, filling the gaps for World Heritage” (2022-…), “3DPast, living & virtual visiting European World Heritage” (2017-21) and “Economy Studies for the Lisbon Metropolitan Area Regional Plan” (2009-10). Author and editor of books on architecture and urbanism and on several publications in international scientific journals. He is coordinator of Municipal Urban Plans and was awarded for the Urban Logic project, from the Smart Cities ideas contest by Cologistics, European program Interreg Portugal – Spain (2022).
