Bruno Andrade – Short Bio

PhD in Architecture and Urbanism at UFMG-TUWien, Brazil-Austria (2019). He has a Postdoc by the University College Dublin (UCD) in the project Coastal Communities Adapting Together (CCAT). Bachelor in Architecture and Urbanism – UFES (Brazil, 2012) and Master by the same university with internship at the University of Florance – UNIFI (2014-2015). Currently, he is a Researcher (2023 – …) at the Department of Architecture and Multimedia (DAMG), University Portucalense (UPT), Porto, Portugal, funded by the 5th Edition of the Individual Scientific Employment of FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) to develop the project “Heritage at Play”. Previous projects as PI were “GeoWestCoast” (IRC, 2019), and “HolandÊS” (Dutch Embassy, 2021); besides “EquiCity” (NWO, 2020) as a member of the team. He was an Assistant Professor (2020-2022) in Heritage, Values, and Project Decisions for Sustainability at the TUDelft – UNESCO chair on Heritage and Values: Heritage and the Reshaping of Urban Conservation for Sustainability, at Heritage and Architecture section, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TUDelft. He has experience in the application of digital technologies in architectural, urban and landscape heritage planning and design in Brazil, Italy, Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Portugal, with a focus on citizen engagement through serious geogames (Minecraft, Lego3D) and AR games (Pokémon GO, Ingress, Harry Potter). He has publications in indexed journals such as Environment and Planning B, Cities, Visual Studies, and V!RUS. Specifically, he will explore in his new position the gamification integrated into hybrid and digital technologies as a method for 1) the education of architects with skills of graphic, interactive, and ludic design representation from the cultural meaning (heritage attributes and values); 2) participative democracy in cultural heritage management processes, such as Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA).
