Besides the renewal of social and economic activities, the emblematic public places, streets, squares and gardens, share different kind of needs, both formal and functional. To face these challenges, the local authorities and stakeholders are trying to manage the conflicts between users and preserve their heritage values. This special session welcomes research evidence from interdisciplinary areas, as architecture, planning or geography, in a framework of digital and energy transitions, to debate case studies and the evolution of these public places. A 13ª Conferência PNUM 2025 dá sequência ao conjunto de eventos da Rede Lusófona de Morfologia Urbana (PNUM), que decorre desde 2010, nas áreas da Arquitetura, Planeamento Urbano, Engenharia, Geografia, História, entre outras disciplinas. International Seminar: Which future for Vernacular Architecture & Earthen Architecture?

International Seminar & Round-Table on:Which future for vernacular architecture & earthen architecture? Programme (If you cannot download, please try another browser) During the last years, vernacular architecture and earthen architecture have faced multiple challenges worldwide, which have threaten their survival. In several regions, intangible knowledge is disappearing fast, in part due to the fact there is less people keeping the building culture and its know-how alive. To discuss the future of vernacular architecture and earthen architecture, we are inviting interested professionals and researchers to meet in Porto, on June 15 & 16, 2023. The event will be structured in three sessions with debates and a round-table. The International Seminar on Vernacular and Earthen Architecture will be dedicated to vernacular documentation, World Heritage, intangible knowledge, knowledge transfer, climate action, adaptation, and a final round-table discussion with input from participations. The key-purpose of the round-table will be to establish ways forward, on how to keep vernacular and earthen architecture alive. A publication with the paper’s proceedings, and the round-table notes, will be published in 2023.  

Heritage 2022 – International Conference on Vernacular Heritage: Culture, People and Sustainability

HERITAGE2022, International Conference on Vernacular Heritage: Culture, People and Sustainability, is organized in the framework of the project VERSUS+ – Heritage for people funded by the Creative Europe Program of the European Union. The conference will be held on September 15th, 16th and 17th, 2022 at the School of Architecture of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. In addition to the presentation of selected papers and posters, the HERITAGE2022 program includes also keynote lectures delivered by international experts on the conference’s topics.
